     Martha J. McClanahan was born in 1853 at TN.

     Martha Locke was born before 1835 at Chester, SC. As of 5 August 1860,her married name was McClanahan. She married Mason McClanahan on 5 August 1860.

     Mason McClanahan was born in 1843 at TN. He married Martha Locke, daughter of Joseph L Locke and Mary Culp, on 5 August 1860. Mason McClanahan died after 1890.

     Jonathan Lock was born before 1836 at TN.

     Stephen Locke There are 2 Stephen Lockes that have frustrated some of us for years. Thanks to research done by Kate Locke - who has made great progress on answering "Who is Stephen?".

Stephen #1—Father was William Locke and husband of Nancy Hines. Father of Willis, Levi, Martha, Thena, Rebecca, and Nancy. Likely born before 1784 (to allow for birth of Willis in 1804). Death date unknown.

Stephen #2—Father was Josias John Locke and husband of Rhoda Reeves (step-daughter of Joseph Lock, step-sister of Josiah Lock). Listed in land transfer in 1839. Died about 1847. Likely born in 1800-1810 (age listed on 1840 York census).¹ He was born in 1810 at Chester, South Carolina.² He witnessed Dates of children may not be correct - TBD?
Kate Locke has them in this order:
William C; Adaline; Mary Ann; Amanda; Martha G; Emily; Virginia "Jennie"; John. circa 1828.³ He married Rhoda Reeves, daughter of William Cook Reeves and Mary Culp, circa 1828. Stephen Locke died in 1847; In a letter to Reverend W.C. Cooper written by Jesse R. Locke in 1938, we learned that Levi’s father, Stephen, was killed in a duel in Chester County before 1840???

     Rhoda Reeves witnessed Around 1828, Mary’s daughter, Rhoda Reeves, was married to Stephen Lock, the brother of her step-father. ( This makes Rhoda’s relationship to Mary & Joseph’s children rather confusing—she is both their half-sister and their aunt (since she is married to their father’s brother).

Sometime between 1830-1836, two more of Mary’s daughters from her first marriage were married—Mary Y. Reeves married Henry W. Horne, a school teacher; and Ruth Reeves married Levi Lock, a first cousin once removed of her step-father. ((2. Levi Locke is the son of Stephen Locke & Nancy Hines. Stephen is probably the son of William Lock, Joseph’s paternal uncle. These couples are all listed along with Mary & Joseph as heirs on the land transfer for the 1837 sale of the land left by William C. Reeves. Linsey is not listed at all as an heir on the document which suggests that she died prior to 1837.¹ Her married name was Locke. She was born circa 1814 at SC. She married Stephen Locke, son of Josias Locke and Susanna Hall, circa 1828. Rhoda Reeves died after 1870; Could have been 1880 or 1900 TBD?

     William C. Lock was born circa 1828 at Chester, SC.

     Mary Ann Lock was born circa 1832 at SC.

     Amanda Lock was born circa 1836 at SC.

     Martha G Lock was born circa 1838.

     Emily Lock was born circa 1842 at SC.

     John Lock was born circa 1846.

     Adaline Lock was born circa 1840. As of before 1859,her married name was Hemmings. She married Elijah Hemmings before 1859. As of after 1862,her married name was Tipton. Adaline Lock married Isaac Gilbert Boring Tipton after 1862. As of 8 November 1888,her married name was McClanahan. Adaline Lock married John McClanahan on 8 November 1888. Adaline Lock died on 15 January 1924 at Birchwood, TN.

     Isaac G. Tipton was born on 10 June 1810. He married Virginia "Jennie" Lock, daughter of Stephen Locke and Rhoda Reeves, on 21 March 1871. Isaac G. Tipton died on 1 November 1884 at Birchwood, TN, at age 74.

     Martha Katherine "Mattie" Tipton was born on 12 September 1874 at TN. As of 9 July 1889,her married name was Bower. She married Joseph Coleman Bower on 9 July 1889. Martha Katherine "Mattie" Tipton died on 24 May 1954 at Birchwood, TN, at age 79.

     Joseph Coleman Bower was born on 7 December 1870 at TN. He married Martha Katherine "Mattie" Tipton, daughter of Isaac G. Tipton and Adaline Lock, on 9 July 1889. Joseph Coleman Bower died on 14 October 1929 at Birchwood, TN, at age 58.

     Willie Claude Bower married Carrie Flemming. Willie Claude Bower married Mada Elizabeth Ammerman. Willie Claude Bower married Lassie Bell Lovell. Willie Claude Bower was born on 8 July 1890 at TN. He died on 30 September 1969 at Oneida, TN, at age 79.

     Carrie Flemming married Willie Claude Bower, son of Joseph Coleman Bower and Martha Katherine "Mattie" Tipton.

     Her married name was Bower. Mada Elizabeth Ammerman married Willie Claude Bower, son of Joseph Coleman Bower and Martha Katherine "Mattie" Tipton. Mada Elizabeth Ammerman was born on 19 June 1903 at Grant, KY. She died on 5 February 1973 at age 69.

     Joseph Ammerman Bower married Lassie Bell Lovell in 1907. Joseph Ammerman Bower was born on 3 October 1939 at Oneida, TN. He died on 31 August 1941 at age 1.

     Lassie Bell Lovell married Willie Claude Bower, son of Joseph Coleman Bower and Martha Katherine "Mattie" Tipton. Lassie Bell Lovell was born on 7 April 1885. As of 1907,her married name was Bower. She married Joseph Ammerman Bower, son of Willie Claude Bower and Mada Elizabeth Ammerman, in 1907. Lassie Bell Lovell died in 1980.

     Grace M. Bower was born on 10 July 1892 at TN? She died on 30 April 1893 at TN?

     Her married name was Williams. Anna Lula Bower married Burton Williams. Anna Lula Bower was born in April 1894 at Birchwood, TN.

     Burton Williams married Anna Lula Bower, daughter of Joseph Coleman Bower and Martha Katherine "Mattie" Tipton.

     Nellie Pearl Bower married Tom Franillian Smith.

     Tom Franillian Smith married Nellie Pearl Bower, daughter of Joseph Coleman Bower and Martha Katherine "Mattie" Tipton.

     Dewey Eugene Bower was born in August 1898 at Birchwood, TN. He died in 1993 at Miami, FL.

     Bessie Viola Bower was born circa 1902 at TN. As of 1923,her married name was Harbour. She married Emory Brown Harbour in 1923. Bessie Viola Bower died on 26 April 1994 at Scottsboro, AL.
