     Her married name was Locke. Dorothy White was born on 19 February 1829 at Chester, SC. She married Josiah Henry Locke, son of Benjamin Lafayette Locke and Mary 'Polly' Hefley, circa 1858. Dorothy White died on 23 February 1906 at age 77.

Her married name was Locke. Mary 'Polly' Hefley married Benjamin Lafayette Locke, son of Josias John Locke and Susanna Hall; a mystery was the origin of Mary, wife to Benjamin Locke. Because the name Polly Hefley had been passed down as being the mother of Josiah H. Locke, and because Polly was the common nickname for Mary, we will work around the assumption that Mary “Polly” Hefley was the wife of Benjamin Locke, and try to prove or disprove that assumption. The Hefley name first appears in conjunction with the Locke name in the estate papers of Josias Locke in 1827. In the settlement of the estate, Michal Hefley was owed money by Josias Locke, and the debt was satisfied. This Hefley was most likely a neighbor to the Locke family, and possibly the father or brother to Mary, Benjamin Locke’s new wife. Mary 'Polly' Hefley was born circa 1810; J. M. Hefley makes an unusual appearance in the estate papers of Nancy Hines Locke, in 1848. He swears to act as Guardian Ad Litum for Sarah, Margaret, Mary, and J.H. Hefley, children in the care of Nancy Locke. In the 1850 census, J.M. Hefley, age 37, is shown as the head-of-household which contains four children. They are Sarah, age 11, Margaret, age 9, Mary, age 7, and James H. Hefley, age 3. Obviously, these are the same four Hefley children for whom he had assumed responsibility in the Nancy Hines Locke estate settlement. He was most likely their uncle, and no mother or wife was shown in the household. In the A.W. Locke Civil War letter to his sister, Betty (Elizabeth), on October 9, 1863, he writes, “Andy Hefley was killed dead on the field, and Jack (presumably another Hefley) was wounded in the leg. I did not see Jack, but he sent me word that as soon as he was able to go and get a furlow, he was going to my house (A.W. Lock’s) and Tom’s to stay until he was able for duty.” Obviously, there was a close relationship with these Hefley and Locke families, most likely as cousins! More information on the Hefley family in Chester County is needed. Any help that any of you could provide would be most appreciated. She died in 1867.

     Andrew William Locke was born circa 1835.¹ He married Amanda (?) before 1858. Andrew William Locke died on 6 May 1864 at Virginia.

     Elizabeth Locke was born circa 1838 at Chester, SC.¹ She died after 1900.

     James Thomas Williams Jr. married Lizabeth Pierson (Betsy) Locke, daughter of Dewey Francis Locke and Peggy Jewell Pierson, on 5 October 1991 at Trinity Presb., Georgia.

     Raymond William Metzger Jr. married Mildred Jean Robertson, daughter of William Wallace Robertson and Nancy Lee Hill, on 17 December 1988 at Spartanburg, South Carolina.

     Lovick Pierce Strider was born on 24 March 1895 at Montgomery, NC; Pierce and Robert Hugh Strider were twins. He began military service in 1917 World War I - Rainbow Division

1917 WWI He began his military training in Spartanburg, SC at Camp Wadsworth. From there he was assigned to the Rainbow Division. While exiting a Landing barge in deep water, he was almost killed. He was Jeweler - The Watch Shop, a note in the Hill's Goldboro City Directory 1948 referred to "Carolina Precision Watch Co (Thos E hodgin-Pearce Strider) 199 Ormaond av" in 1925. He was Bethel United Methodist Church - Mens Bible Class. He married Alice Marguerite Kluttz, daughter of Charles Alexander Kluttz and Annie Belle Orpin, on 25 December 1925 at Asheville, NC. Lovick Pierce Strider died on 10 June 1974 at Goldsboro, NC, at age 79; Died of pancreatic cancer. He was buried on 11 June 1974 at Goldsboro, NC.

     Alice Marguerite Kluttz was born on 26 May 1902 at Asheville, NC. She married Lovick Pierce Strider, son of Rev. Jacob Winborne Strider and Effie Jane Morgan, on 25 December 1925 at Asheville, NC. Alice Marguerite Kluttz died on 27 November 1986 at Goldsboro, NC, at age 84. She was buried on 30 November 1986 at Goldsboro, NC.

     Pierce Winborn Strider was born on 18 July 1928 at Hendersonville, NC. He married Margaret Hilda Liles, daughter of Orion Clinton Liles and Hortense Foushee, on 16 April 1949 at Goldsboro, NC. Pierce Winborn Strider died on 2 March 1962 at Chicago, Illinois, at age 33; Worked in Goldsboro at the Jewlry shop. He died of a ruptured Colonic Ulcer. He was traveling and was in his hotel. He got in a warm bath to help with the pain (as he had done many times) and was found the next morning. He was buried on 5 March 1962 at Goldsboro, NC.

     Arthur Thomas Strider was buried at Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was born on 13 December 1932 at Hendersonville, NC. He died on 24 December 1950 at Goldsboro, NC, at age 18; Died of Uremic poison, he left the hospital and was staying with mom and dad.

     Charles Albert Strider was born on 19 September 1934 at Hendersonville, NC. He married Eleanor Faye Daniels, daughter of Ben W. Daniels and Maybelle Adeline Grant, on 21 July 1957 at Goldsboro, NC. Charles Albert Strider married Donna Jean Wetteland on 26 May 1984 at Los Angeles, CA. Charles Albert Strider was born on September 19, 1934 in the western mountains of North Carolina in Hendersonville. He was the fourth of five children born to L. Pierce and Alice Strider. At age 4, his family moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina where Charlie spent most of his growing-up years. One of his most special friends in Spartanburg was Bill Truitt, whom he remained friends with from the second grade until his passing.

In 1950, after Charlie’s brother, Arthur, died, the family moved to Goldsboro, North Carolina. While at Goldsboro High School, Charlie met his soon-to-be-bride, Faye Daniels. Both of them went on to attend Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, Charlie on a football scholarship. He was Student Body President, as well as Co-Captain of the Quaker football team, and received his B.S. in Physics in 1956. In his senior year, he was offered a position at the Hughes Aircraft Company in Los Angeles. The offer also included an opportunity to study for an advanced degree. He received his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from U.S.C.

Faye and Charlie were married in 1957, but after 25 years she passed away from cancer. During Charlie’s career at Hughes, he developed antennas for the Surveyor spacecraft as well as the rendezvous radar antenna on the Space Shuttle. He was also part of the team developing antennas used on military aircraft including the F-106, F111, used in Vietnam, the F-14, F-15, and F-18. He received a prestigious patent award from Hughes for his creation and development of the antenna used in the radar system on the Stealth Bomber (B2).

Charlie and his hunting buddy of over 50 years, Harry Nelson, hunted together all over the northwest, and also in Alaska. Charlie married Donna Wetteland on May 26, 1984 and they had many happy travels together, including their honeymoon on a photo safari in Kenya. Charlie was a faithful, considerate, humble, intelligent individual, and had the wonderful gift of being a peacemaker. He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Boise. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Faye, two brothers, and one sister. He leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Donna, sister Margaret Forehand of TN and her family, as well as nephew, Joe Locke (Debbie) of Spartanburg, SC., and many, many friends. Rest well, my beautiful man.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 10 -11 am at Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise. A service will immediately follow the viewing at 11 am. Burial will take place in Cloverdale Memorial Park Cemetery.

Wonder if C A Kluttz was a sibling to Sallie? He was born on 16 November 1874 at Salisbury, NC. He married Annie Belle Orpin, daughter of Phylander Chase Orpin and Rebecca Harvey Ridgewell, on 28 June 1900 at Asheville, NC.
