     Benjamin Stevens was born in 1671 at Maryland. He married Lettice (?) before 1697 at Maryland; Some have this date as 1700. Benjamin Stevens died on 28 May 1733 at Maryland.

     Bert Durwood Locke was born on 31 October 1920 at Hamlin, TX. He died on 29 March 1996 at age 75.

     Polly Locke was born in 1751 at Maryland.

     Her married name was Locke. Elizabeth Edwards married Meverall Locke, son of Phillip Lock and Mary Hulse, before 1750.

     Benjamin Lafayette Locke A few people have had Benjamin as a son to Josias or Joe Locke. He married Mary 'Polly' Hefley; a mystery was the origin of Mary, wife to Benjamin Locke. Because the name Polly Hefley had been passed down as being the mother of Josiah H. Locke, and because Polly was the common nickname for Mary, we will work around the assumption that Mary “Polly” Hefley was the wife of Benjamin Locke, and try to prove or disprove that assumption. The Hefley name first appears in conjunction with the Locke name in the estate papers of Josias Locke in 1827. In the settlement of the estate, Michal Hefley was owed money by Josias Locke, and the debt was satisfied. This Hefley was most likely a neighbor to the Locke family, and possibly the father or brother to Mary, Benjamin Locke’s new wife. Benjamin Lafayette Locke was born in 1795 at Halifax, NC; listed as being born in Chester SC, 1787 in previous records. He died in 1847.

     Josiah Henry Locke was born circa 1833 at Chester, South Carolina; Most records show his birth in 1833; however, the grave marker shows his death 30July1864 at age 36 yrs. So, it could have been 1828 or 1829.^3,4 He married Dorothy White, daughter of Robert White and Elizbeth Roddy, circa 1858. Josiah Henry Locke began military service in 1863 Civil War, Company A., 17th, S.C.V.^5,6,7,8,9 He died on 17 June 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia; Killed in battle, cenotaph marker at Union ARP Church in Richburg SC.

     Robert White married Elizbeth Roddy. Robert White was born in 1792.¹

     Catherine Wofford was born on 16 June 1871.

     M.M. White was born in 1827.

     James H White was born in 1832.

     Elizabeth Francis Rogers was born on 18 February 1833 at Meigs, Tennessee. As of 15 February 1848,her married name was Locke. She married Jesse Culp Locke, son of Jesse McCulloch Locke and Catherine Reeves, on 15 February 1848 at Macon, Alabama. Elizabeth Francis Rogers died on 17 November 1855 at Silas, Alabama, at age 22.

     Martha Rogers married Benjamin McCullough Locke, son of Jesse Culp Locke and Margaret Fletcher Davis.

     Robert Owen Thompson married Olivia Lampley. Robert Owen Thompson was born in 1882. He died in 1960 at Panama City, Florida. He Born from an ill fated relationship between Benjamin M. Locke and the African- American cook in the Jesse Culp Locke household, Owen Thompson was always recognized by Benjamin as his own. Owen’s half brother, Robert Locke, who would go on to become an Alabama state representative and successful businessman, always kept in
touch with his older brother, even though the two could not be raised in the same household. Recently, descendants of Owen Thompson gathered in Ohio for their family reunion. Owen’s grandson, Burnice Harris of Mobile, sent these photos from that gathering. Burnice’s Uncle Ed had earlier contributed his DNA to confirm the Locke connection of Burnice’s grandfather, Owen, to the Jesse McCullough Locke line.

Thompson family oral history speaks of a family named “Slader” who raised Owen. It also speaks of a horrible fate that befell Owen’s mother after she gave birth to Owen. According to tales that were passed down, she was torn apart by horses when ropes were attached to her arms and legs. Would Jesse Culp Locke have allowed this to happen? In July 2012.

     Sue Belle Winchester was born on 26 July 1892. As of 31 January 1915,her married name was Locke. She married Furman Master Locke, son of Absalom Lewis Locke and Sarah Elizabeth, 'Lizzie' Campbell, on 31 January 1915. Sue Belle Winchester died on 10 October 1991 at age 99.

     Earnest Jackson Ballard was born on 21 August 1891 at SC. He married Elizabeth Bea Locke, daughter of Washington Daniel Philemon Pickney Locke and Margaret Alice West-Mellon, on 18 June 1919 at SC. Earnest Jackson Ballard died on 14 July 1954 at SC at age 62.

     Earnest Jackson Ballard Jr married Ardith Roberts.

     Alice Ballard married Joe Smoak.

     William Locke Ballard married Beverly (?)

     Her married name was Dent. Margaret Irene Ballard married Johnnie Shellman Dent. Margaret Irene Ballard was born on 30 January 1926. She died on 11 March 2009 at age 83.

     John Lynn Ballard married Marilyn (?)

     Her married name was Locke. Ruth Rogers was born on 14 August 1904. She married Walston Levi Locke, son of Absalom Lewis Locke and Sarah Elizabeth, 'Lizzie' Campbell, on 6 December 1920. Ruth Rogers died on 2 June 1970 at age 65.

     Marjorie Marie Locke married Fred Willard Herres Jr.
