     Eleanor "Nellie" Wofford witnessed Nellie, daughter of Isaac and Jennie, married Elihu Lewis in the early fifties. Seven children were born to them as follow: William, Isaac, Taylor, Frank, Monck, Mary Anne and Jane.1 She witnessed Eleanor and Elihu had the following children:

William Lewis, who married and had several children.

Frank Lewis married Sarah Black and had several children.

Isaac Lewis married a Miss Tatum. He served in the Civil War and was with Lee at Appomattox. He said that an apple tree was completely ruined by souvenir hunters after the battle. He moved to Arkansas and died at Board Camp, Polk County, Arkansas. He left several children.

Mary Ann Lewis married John Free. They had several children as follows:
Mattie married Will Howard;
Gordy married Ed Foister and they had several children. Gordy is an invalid;
Orleana married Ed Gill and is dead;
Will married Sallie Roberts and has three children: Clifford, Ellie and Rudolph;
Joe has several children.2 Her married name was Lewis.3 She married Elihu Lewis after 1850.3 Eleanor "Nellie" Wofford died circa 1870.

     Mary Wofford witnessed Mary Wofford Edwards had 2 children: Bud and Sarah.

Bud Edwards married a Miss Sexton. To this union were born several children, George and John are two of them. They now live in Resaca.

Sarah Edwards married Jacob Reel and was the mother of two children: Millie and Viola.1 She pg 23 says Mary was married to Isaac Edwards and they had one son and two daughters: Bud, Sarah and Eugia.

pg 47 mentions a "Sug" Edwards who married King Eaker. Their children are Rillie, James, Dora, Calvin and John (twins) and Roland. "Sug" and King are both buried at liberty church Cemetery near Chattanooga.

Nee to research "Sug" more.2 Her married name was Edwards. She was Married her 1st cousin. She married Isaac Edwards.

     Elizabeth Wofford witnessed Elizabeth Wofford, daughter of Isaac and Jennie, married William Reece, a brother of Mrs Caroline Reece Wofford. To this union were born two children: Easter and William. After the death of her husband Elizabeth marrried a Mr. Orr. Merrick Orr was their only child. After the disappearance of Mr. Orr, Elizabeth married John Dudley of Pickens(?) County, Georgia. To the last union were born five children: Elafais(?), Thomas, Dresilla, Martha and Ransel. Elizabeth was buried near Rock Mart, Georgia.1 She witnessed Children of Elizabeth Wofford Reece + Dudley + Orr(?)

Esther Reece married Henry Watts. A son of Robert Watts and others were her descendants. Esther lives at Rock Mart, Ga

William Reece had several children

Merrick Orr married Emily Coggins. To this union were born two children: Etta and Willie. They live near Pleasant Hill. Etta married Stanley Campbell and has five Children. Willie is unmarried.

Elefair married a cousin to Esther’s husband.

Thomas Dudley has several children. He has a nice home in the suburbs of Chattanooga and from appearances is a prosperous farmer.

No records for Drusilla, Marth and Ransel.

Need to research this more.2 Her married name was Reece.1 She married William Reece.1 Elizabeth Wofford was born circa 1831.

     Mark J. Wofford was All the information on Mark Woffords descendents came to Marguerite Hays from Mrs. Gus J. Hawkins of Chattanooga, Tenn.

They had five children: Mary Jane, an infant, Callie, Samuel and Sarah.

Mark served in the Civil War in Mississippi and Alabama. He was captured at Mobile and carred to Ship Island Ga(?) stayed there six weeks and was paroled out at the close of the war. He was placed under Negro guards during captivity. After parol he came home to Chicamauga Station, near Chattanooga, TN. He died at Whorley, TN and was buried at Concord Baptist Cemetery near Chattanooga.1 He was born circa 1827. He married Jane Tate circa 1847.

     Merrick H. Wofford witnessed Merrick H. Wofford was a skilled carpenter. He lived in the central part of Gordon County, GA. He served in the Civil War. He married Caroline Peace (Reace). To this union was born one child, Laura. After the death of Caroline, John married Nancy Powell and to this union were born the following children: Graves, Frank, Joseph, John and Benjamin. Nancy and their son John died in 1886 and were buried in the cemetery at Pleasant Hill. A few years later Merrick died and was also buried at Pleasant Hill.

See 1870 Census Record from Gordan, GA.1 He was born circa 1830. He married Caroline Peace after 1850. Merrick H. Wofford married Nancy Powell after 1853. Merrick H. Wofford died in 1887.

     Benjamin Mahoney Wofford witnessed Benjamin married Mary Bennett, Elvira was their only daughter. He later married Elimira Moore and had a son Cleveland. Benjamin died near Red Bud, GA.


Elvira, daughter of Benjamin was never married.

There is not infomration on Cleveland Wofford.1,2 He married Mary Bennett. Benjamin Mahoney Wofford married Elmira Moore. Benjamin Mahoney Wofford was born circa 1833.

     John Wofford witnessed John joined the southern army during seccsion, died in service and was buried at Beans Station, TN.1 He was born circa 1835. He married Nancy Inlow, daughter of ? Inlow, in 1857.

Rev. Isaac Edwin Wofford

     Rev. Isaac Edwin Wofford was Most of the information on Isaac came from the House of Wofford's. Rev. Edwin Wofford married Eugenia Caroline Inlow, the sister to Nancy Inlow wife of John Wofford. They had eight children: Four died in infancy. The others are: Tatum, Julia, John Henry and Luvenia(?).

Edwin enlisted in the southern army in 1862 and was wonded in battle at Jonesboro, GA Aug 31, 1864. In the battle of Resaca, GA thirty eight bullet holes were made in a blanket around his body. (most missed)

Edwin spent a furlough with his brother James B in South Carolina while recovering from his wounds.

He was ordained to the Baptist ministry in1885 and was a faithful Christian servant as long as his health permitted. He was laid to rest at Pleasant Hill on Nov 23, 1922. His wife was buried in 1918.


Information from Morrell Wofford Long ( Rt. 3, Red Bud Road, Calhoun, Ga. 30701), showed the parents of Edwin Wofford and Genie Inlow to be Isaac Wofford and a woman with the last name McHam. Need to research this more.1 He was born on 28 October 1837. He married Eugenia Caroline Inlow, daughter of ? Inlow, on 8 September 1859. Rev. Isaac Edwin Wofford died on 23 November 1922 at Calhoun, Georgia, at age 85; Buried at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 574 Pleasant Hill Rd NE, Ranger, GA 30734.

Nancy Wofford

     Nancy Wofford witnessed Nancy, daughter of Isaac and Jennie, was born in SC Jan 23, 1840. She married Allen Hewett about 1855. To this union were born Zechariah, Franklin, Myra and Madison.

Allen died a prisoner of war in Elmira, N.Y. in 1863.1 She was born on 23 January 1840. She married Allen Hewett circa 1855. Nancy Wofford died on 24 March 1894 at age 54.
